Bonjour sustainability

Organic slippers and jute bags are a thing of the past - as all hipsters know.

The new sustainability of the 2020s is different: we not only want environmentally friendly products, but also aesthetic and equally practical ones. No problem. With a little research, you can quickly find numerous products that can enrich our everyday lives without plastic or harmful substances. There are now many suppliers who trade their products fairly, manufacture them vegan and without animal testing, but also package and ship them in an environmentally friendly way.

"If you always do what you can already do, you will always remain what you already are."

- HENRY FORD

You can also do a lot better when shopping without having to restrict yourself too much: Reusable fruit nets instead of plastic bags, bringing your own shopping bags (they also come in nice ones) or even shopping without packaging are small steps in a promising direction. It's like going to the polls: Every vote counts and has a significant impact.

In the household, everyone can take small steps to reduce waste and do something good for the environment: Beeswax wipes instead of aluminum foil, washable make-up remover pads instead of the "practical" disposable wipes or cotton pads.

Straws and cardboard to-go cups are probably the best-known sinful representatives of our disposable society, which has become accustomed to everything being available immediately and on the go. Fortunately, they are gradually being replaced and even banned in some cases.

If you want to start now, you can simply visit your local unpackaged food store or, as a first step, replace the crackling aluminum foil in your kitchen with stylish tins that are great for storing, freezing and keeping things fresh.

The "Too good to go" app also provides a remedy for the throwaway mentality: here you can find food and dishes in your area that are still fresh and edible but can no longer be sold and would otherwise have to be thrown away.

Once you turn your attention to it, you quickly notice that your neighbor may already be dealing with the topic of sustainability - this provides new material for small talk in the elevator. It also makes us more mindful of ourselves and the world we live in every day and want to continue to enjoy. If possible, without plastic and useless stuff.
